(b. 1994, Chiang Rai)

Maliwan graduated B.Ed in Art Education, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, Chiang Mai in 2017. She is currently a post-graduate student at Chiang Mai University in Visual Arts. Her works are created often with the lens of an art teacher, of seeing images and of translating images. She is initially from Mae Sai, Chiang Rai. Her ethnicity is Tai-Lue, the root of which resided in Sipsongpanna, China. Her works translate the experience of those who are victims, and at the same time, of somebody who grew up in an all-female household.

My works start with my enchantment in the body, face, and the internal female experience that I see as mesmerizing and intriguing. The liberation from verbal expression leads me to the use of camera as a document tool, to record the movement of my body through the lens.

Desires are common in childhood, it stems from societies standard of perfection. Perfection would be my avatar. Desire in that time, my mom always said , if we prayed every night for it it would come true.

In a male-dominant society formed by religions and other social and cultural values, women seem like slaves to men in some ways, as if a secretary who brews tea for her boss.

The beauty of the body that is often viewed as abnormal by the social norms. The piece plays with the exaggeration of the body, the movement, and balance through Performance Art.
